Java adalah salah satu plug in penting pada browser. Java berfungsi untuk menjalankan javascript yang ada pada halaman web yang dibuka oleh browser. Bagi yang belum mengetahui apakah itu javascript, singkatnya javascript adalah sebuah source code program yang dieksekusi pada komputer client (komputer yang kita pakai untuk browsing) bukan pada komputer server seperti source code PHP. Jadi javascript memerlukan sebuah lingkungan software java (java runtime environment/JRE) untuk dapat berjalan.
